You won't believe you can drill like this with a Tormach mill
DAVID MEYERS (Fort Myers, FL) 5/6/2017 1:18 AM
We use a Tormach 1100 for prototyping. It's a great machine for small runs and mock up work, but we always laughed about it's limited power and rigidity. I've always used carbide drills, but the ones I bough from other manufacturers looked exactly like hardware store drills, but they were heavier. These high performance carbide drills will blow your mind. In aluminum you can push feed rates up to 728 mm per minute with a 15/64 drill, and surpass 250mm per minute in tool steel and titanium. Every time the drill contacts the material I wince a bit, but it blows right through, clears chips with ease, and I have yet to break one. Don't buy a set of cheap drill bits. You'll never use most of them , and the ones you do use won't last. If you buy high quality carbide bits like these, you only need to buy the ones for the specific job you're working on, and your productivity will triple; especially if you have a lower powered mill like the Tormach.
